Educational programs are a large part of our mission. A scholarship committee comprised of physicians and school principals select needy high school graduates, who have excellent academic qualifications. Hearts Afire Foundation provides full scholarships for these students to attend universities in Nicaragua. Tuition, books, room and board are provided. Since the inception of this program, approximately 60 students have received university degrees. This greatly enhances their ability to obtain meaningful employment. Currently 25 students are attending college on funding provided by Hearts Afire Foundation.

Another of our projects is an English Language program. The 25 high school students attend English class five nights per week at a facility provided by Hearts Afire Foundation. The students complete the course study over four years and many of these students achieve fluency, which greatly increases their employment potential. Hearts Afire Foundation assures 100% of the cost of this school, which is free for the students who attend.

Physical educational programs are also a part of our mission. We work closely with physical education teachers who coach basketball, baseball, soccer and boxing. Hearts Afire Foundation provides equipment, uniforms and technical support as needed.
